Women’s Art Group
Take a moment, just for you.
The Women’s Art Group at Create to Connect is a fortnightly space to step away from the noise of everyday life, slow down and spend an afternoon creating alongside other women.
You do not need to be an artist. You don’t need to know how to draw, paint, sew or work with clay. There is no expectation to create something perfect, and no pressure to keep up with anyone else.
This is about giving yourself two hours to rest, explore, make and connect.
Each session begins with a short, gentle guided meditation designed to help us arrive, clear some of the mental clutter and shift out of the rush of everyday life. From there, we explore a different art medium and create an artwork from beginning to end.
You’ll be given enough guidance to help you feel confident getting started, while still having the freedom to make the work your own.
Some people come for the art. Some come for the company. Some simply need an excuse to put everything else down for a couple of hours.
Most of us need a little bit of all three.
What to expect
The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming and completely non-judgemental.
You might spend the afternoon quietly absorbed in what you’re making. You might find yourself laughing and chatting with the women around you. You might surprise yourself by trying something you never thought you could do.
There is no pressure to share anything personal and no expectation that your artwork needs to have a deep meaning. The reflective element is simply an invitation to slow down, notice where you are and allow creativity to become a little breathing space in your week.
All materials are provided.

Term 3 Sessions
Clay & Reflection
Sunday 19 July
We begin the term by slowing down and working with our hands.
After a gentle guided meditation around making space, we’ll explore air-dry clay and create a hand-built vessel or sculptural form.
You might create something smooth and simple, organic and imperfect, textured with natural materials, or marked with words and symbols that hold meaning for you.
Clay is wonderfully grounding. It asks us to use our hands, respond to the material and let go of the need to have everything planned before we begin.
No clay experience is needed.
Fibre Art & Weaving
Sunday 2 August
A tactile, colourful afternoon exploring beautiful fibres, yarns and textures.
We’ll work with weaving and fibre art techniques using wool, ribbon, fabric and mixed materials to create an individual textile artwork.
There is something deeply absorbing about repetitive processes such as wrapping, weaving and threading. Hands become busy, conversation flows naturally, and the rest of the world can become a little quieter for a while.
No sewing, knitting or weaving experience is required.
Watercolour & Ink
Sunday 16 August
An opportunity to loosen up, experiment and enjoy the beautiful unpredictability of watercolour.
We’ll explore colour, flowing washes, mark-making and ink, creating an artwork that combines structure with spontaneity.
This session is about allowing the materials to do some of the work. Colours will blend. Water will move. Unexpected things will happen.
Rather than trying to control every mark, we’ll explore what happens when we become curious about the process.
No drawing or painting experience is necessary.
Mixed Media Collage
Sunday 30 August
A playful afternoon of cutting, layering, arranging and experimenting.
Using papers, images, text, paint, drawing materials, fabric and other found materials, we’ll build richly layered mixed-media artworks.
Collage is wonderfully freeing because you don’t have to begin with a blank page and create everything from scratch. You can respond to colours, textures, words and images that catch your attention and gradually discover where the artwork wants to go.
There are no rules and no single way to approach it.
Printmaking
Sunday 13 September
We finish the term by exploring the satisfying process of printmaking.
Using accessible printmaking techniques, we’ll experiment with shape, pattern, texture, layering and repetition to create a series of unique prints.
Printmaking always contains an element of surprise. You create the plate, apply the ink or paint, press the image—and then reveal what has happened.
It is playful, experimental and incredibly satisfying.
No previous experience is needed.

Each session is a complete two-hour experience, with a different medium to explore and an artwork or creative piece to work on during the afternoon.

Because making time for yourself doesn’t have to be productive.
Sometimes it can simply be about sitting around a table with other women, getting your hands messy, trying something new and remembering how good it feels to create.

Womens Art Group
Our fortnightly Women’s Art Group is a welcoming creative space for women of all experience levels. Each two-hour session explores a different medium, from clay and fibre art to watercolour, collage and printmaking, with all materials provided. Sessions begin with a short guided meditation to help you slow down and settle in before creating in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Sessions are held fortnightly on Sundays from 2pm–4pm at Create to Connect in Frankston. Choose the individual sessions that interest you for $45 each, or book the complete five-session series for $200. No artistic experience is necessary and all materials are included.
